The Film Club of the Department of English envisions cinema as a powerful site of storytelling, cultural expression, and critical inquiry. Through carefully curated screenings and discussions, the club introduces students to diverse cinematic traditions and perspectives from around the world. Our goal is to move beyond passive viewing and foster thoughtful conversations that connect film with literature, history, society, and contemporary concerns, creating a vibrant community of engaged viewers and learners.
During the academic year 2025-2026, the Film Club screened a diverse selection of films from different cinematic traditions, including There Will Be Blood (2007), A Separation (2011), Orson Welles's Othello (1951), Million Dollar Baby (2004), The Night of the Hunter (1955), and Cure (1997). Exploring themes of ambition, memory, morality, identity, resilience, and power, these screenings encouraged students to engage critically with cinema while appreciating its artistic, cultural, and literary significance.
Further, the Film Club of the Department of English from the University of Mumbai collaborated with the Consulate of Mexico to screen Pedro Páramo (2024), which invited more than one hundred viewers.
